About Us

DNDi Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative India Foundation was established in 2016 as an independent not-for-profit company under the Indian Companies Act. In March 2017, the Foundation got tax exemptions from Indian tax authorities and 80G certificate for receiving donations.

The objectives with which the DNDi Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative India Foundation has been set up are:

1. To stimulate and support research and development, primarily of drugs, as well as vaccines and diagnostics for patients suffering from neglected diseases.

2. To seek equitable access and development of new drugs, to promote new formulations of existing drugs, to encourage the production of known effective drugs, diagnostic methods and/or vaccines for patients suffering from neglected diseases.

3. To collaborate in the adoption of new treatments for neglected diseases to meet patient needs, as well as in the production and distribution capacity in developing countries.

4. To raise awareness of the need to research and develop drugs for patients suffering from neglected diseases.

5. To conceive, promote and hold programs, projects, events and research in the fields of health.

Meet Our Directors

Dr Lalit Kant

A medical doctor by training he did his MD from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi University and M Sc in Communicable Disease Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London. Dr Kant was at the Indian Council of Medical Research since 1985, where he headed the Division of Epidemiology & Communicable Diseases for ten years before taking voluntary retirement in April 2011. He also held additional charge of the Divisions of Basic Medical Sciences and International Health while at ICMR.

Dr Farhat Mantoo

Dr Farhat Mantoo has a specialisation in medical anthropology, communication, hospital management and human resources apart from being trained in humanitarian assistance linked to international humanitarian affairs. She is presently the General Director of MSF India. Her primary research interests are in the application and relevance of low-cost quality medical innovations and implementation of them in humanitarian medicine. This includes technologies for measuring and motivating health-related behaviours to have larger impact.

Dr Geetanjali Uppal

Consultant: Translational Research, Regulatory and External Affairs

Dr Geetanjali Uppal is a medical professional with about twenty years of experience in new drug development with focus on clinical research and new drug regulatory filings for Phase I/ II/ III clinical trials for investigational new drugs and vaccines. An MBBS, MD-Pharmacology, Dr Geetanjali is experienced in development and filing of differentiated drug products for global market with focus on Integrated product development planning optimum regulatory and clinical path and Project Gap Analysis. She has expertise in various aspects of clinical research including medical writing, medical monitoring and clinical operations.
Currently she is working as Consultant - Translational Research, Regulatory and External Affairs with DNDi for Early Clinical Trial Capacity Building in the country and to support the dengue program initiated by DNDi. She is also the Director, Saanvi Ethical Research LLP - a third party service provider for Pharmaceutical Industry and academia. She is also officiating as Member Secretary, Independent Ethics Committee of SER LLP registered with CDSCO..

Dr Monika Bahl

Consultant: Clinical Operations and External Affairs

Dr Monika Bahl is medical professional trained in human resource management, project planning and management with over 24 years’ experience in clinical research Her experience spans over broad spectrum of responsibilities from clinical development program, grant writing, project planning, protocol designing, regulatory, operational & medical monitoring, data review and medical writing and overall project management for clinical trials, academic projects and research initiatives of national interest. As Director- Clinical Portfolio Management at THSTI, DBT, she lead the public health research portfolio in collaboration with DBT, ICMR, academicians, SMEs, researchers and funding agencies, responsible for development of overall strategy, contribute to developing the clinical trials/studies portfolio.
Currently she is working as Consultant: Clinical Operations and External Affairs with DNDi for collaborative projects with ICMR and CROs. She has been conducting training programs and undertaking clinical research assignments and undertaking consultancy assignments as technical experts with ICMR, BIRAC, SMEs, CROs and academic institutes. Technical advisory member for GCP Personal certification Scheme, IEC member of LHMC, Delhi and a visiting faculty to research organizations and leading academic institutes.
