Drug Discovery
DNDi Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative India Foundation wants to focus on investing in bringing all-new treatments through the research and development (R&D) pipeline – both by repurposing or modifying drugs from other therapeutic areas and by identifying and developing entirely new chemical entities. The work may involve screening of compounds, evaluating promising ‘leads’, and optimizing ‘leads’ into promising drug candidates
Lead Optimisation Consortium
DNDi Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative India Foundation aims to uncover potential new treatments for neglected diseases endemic to the country, by establishing a Lead Optimisation Consortium in India with initial activities focused on discovery and optimization of new pre-clinical drug candidates for leishmaniasis, SARS COV2 and viral diseases with pandemic potential. The collaboration platform aims to strengthen the existing drug discovery and early development ecosystem in the country and hopefully, deliver novel clinical candidates for treatments of diseases (of high importance) to India and beyond.
Open Synthesis Network
DNDi Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative India Foundation wants to create an Open Synthesis Network (OSN) as a collaborative project that aims to engage master’s and undergraduate medicinal chemistry students in a collaborative platform for enriching the drug discovery knowledge of students. It will be a student crowd sourcing model, where chemistry students would design and synthesize analogue(s) as part of a practical work exercise for compounds proposed by DNDi’s medicinal chemists. DNDi would test synthesized compounds for relevant anti-infective activity, and would share the results openly with OSN participants. All work generated by OSN will be published in the public domain in real-time and will remain free of intellectual property.
