Expert Talk at ICGEB Explores Drug Discovery Case Studies

Dr Peter Sjö, Head of Discovery Projects at Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) delivered an expert talk at International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi where he shared case studies from DNDi’s drug discovery efforts for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Speaking to researchers and students, Dr Sjö walked through the critical steps of optimizing lead molecules—small but essential improvements in efficacy and safety that can make all the difference, especially for diseases like leishmaniasis. He emphasized how open science and collaboration are reshaping drug discovery, breaking silos, and accelerating innovation for diseases often overlooked by traditional R&D models.

The session showcased the power of collective knowledge, global partnerships, and data sharing in overcoming challenges in global health.
